According to a "Faith Alive" brochure there are four types of small groups.
1. Being groups: these are, most of all, relationship building. These people get together because of who they are: new to the
church, and what they do: walk, jog, golf. People find a place to belong.
2. Caring groups: these groups offer others support for addictive behaviors, grief recovery, parents of toddlers or teenagers. People
here are loved, supported and held accountable.
3. Learning groups: These groups concentrate on study, prayer, and spiritual growth. These people are growing to disciple others.
4. Working groups: these groups focus on a specific task or job. They support each other in decision making, prayer and finishing a
task.
Most of the small groups at Heritage are some combination of the first three types described. I can see our Vision Planning
Team as one of the fourth type-a working group. Whatever direction a small group takes, our goal is to have everyone welcomed,
directed, and enfolded into the life of Heritage CRC. We don't want anyone who wants to be part of a small group to be left
standing alone. If you are members of a group (or not), please look for those who may need to be enfolded into relationship with
other church members. Maybe this means leaving your group to start a new one, or splitting you group to accommodate new
members. Maybe you have found 5 or 6 people who love to walk or jog and you want to meet as a small group to add praying for
each other to this activity. Anything that adds connectedness based on spiritual growth and support, searching for God's will
through prayer and scriptural insight will strengthen our church.
Please call us if you have any questions or suggestions. Let us know if you would like to start a specific group, lead one, and definitely,
if you would like to join one. The lead coordinators are Jim and Judy Shear.
